Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE set of WW2 German Luftwaffe Nitsche und Günther Splinter-Proof Goggles (Schutzbrille), Fl. 30550! These were used by many fighter and bomber pilots throughout the late stages of the war.
Development of flight goggles began with the advent of military aircraft during WW1. In the early 1930’s the German firm, “Nitsche & Günther” designed splinter goggles that were based on a pattern that was originally developed by the British firm “Triplex”. During WW2, the Luftwaffe used a wide variety of protective goggles, which all followed the same basic design. Originally this type of goggle came in a single piece frame with clear lenses (similar to sunglasses), however as of 1942, tinted lenses were introduced, and finally in 1944, came the latest model, featuring a 3-piece frame with adjustable nose bridge. This set of Nitsche und Günther Flight goggles set is in EXCELLENT used condition! The frames are made of bakelite, and are in USED condition, with NO major scratches or damage…HOWEVER…there are some hairline cracks in the bridge area, as well as near the temple side where the strap attaches. They do not affect the functionality, and should still be usable without any issues. The lenses show NO damage with only minimal scratches. The elastic straps is still solid, retaining much of the elasticity. Overall these retain approx. 98% their original finish! Some dirt and dust from storage, but that could easily be cleaned up. One screw on the bridge area needs to be tightened, but I will leave that to the wining bidder. Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection or display!
