WW2 German Luftwaffe Gestock – COMMEMORATIVE WALKING STICK – KG4 – RARE!

Out of stock

You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Kampfgeschwader 4 (KG4) Commemorative Walking Stick!  From a veteran’s estate, this type of item was not only made to commemorate, but was also made for daily use.

Kampfgeschwader 4 “General Wever” (KG 4) (Battle Wing 4) was a Luftwaffe bomber wing during World War II. The unit was formed in May 1939. The unit operated the Dornier Do 17, Junkers Ju88 and Heinkel He111 medium bomber, and eventually the  Heinkel He 177 heavy bomber.  The unit was named after General Walther Wever, the prime pre-war proponent for a strategic bombing capability for the Luftwaffe, who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1936.

It was formed on May 1, 1939 at Erfurt and was initially equipped with the He 111 Ps, borrowed from KG 253. The unit spent most of the summer training and recruiting personnel from the flight schools.  They flew in every major campaign, including, the Polish Campaign, German invasion of Denmark, Norwegian Campaign, Battle of the Netherlands, Battle of Belgium, Battle of France, Battle of Britain, German invasion of Yugoslavia, Battle of Greece, Battle of Crete and the Anglo-Iraqi War.

As this specific stick belonged to a member of IV/KG4, the flags represented are; France, Italy, Russia, Poland, Denmark, Belgium, and Croatia.

Made from a solid wood branch (beech?), this is a BEAUTIFUL and VERY RARE example!  Though there are some slight marks and wear, it is VERY solid with no damage!  Retaining approx. 90% original wartime paint, it clearly indicates:

(Ergänzungs Staffel)

“Kampfgeschwader Wever”

Down the shaft of the cane is the hand-painted Unit Shield, followed by are further individually hand-painted flags, representing the countries in which the unit fought or was stationed.  At the bottom of the cane in an MGFF shell, that was installed as the bottom tip, and is dated “1941”.  Originals canes are VERY HARD to find in this condition!  Sadly, I do not have any information on the original owner.  Would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
