This double-barreled, 26.5mm signal flare pistol was issued to Luftwaffe aircrews in order to give them a method of communication that did not rely on their radio transmitters.
Made of aluminum, bakelite, and steel, an EXCELLENT example of the Luftwaffe Flieger-Leuchtpistole L (Aviators Flare Gun L)! Made bin 1944 by “fzs” (Kreighoff), it retains 95% of the original finish, and is clearly marked with the Luftwaffe part number, Fl.24483! Both barrels are marked with a 4 in a circle (indicating “4-Bore”) over a Waffenamt acceptance stamp. All parts are matching, with the serial number “6761”. Features a frame mounted safety with Fire and Safe markings, and uses a breakaway design that is activated by pushing the release lever, located under the trigger guard. This action releases the locking lugs, opens the action, cocks the pistol and automatically sets it on safe. After closing the action, the pilot can use selector switch on the rear of the frame to determine whether they want to fire the Left barrel, Right barrel or both barrels simultaneously. Some marks, scratches, and wear, but nothing that detracts. Mechanics are a bit sticky, but all seems to functional as it should. One indicator pin appears to be a replacement. A VERY NICE late-war example, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
