Description
Hugo Sperrle was one of the most senior commanders of the German Luftwaffe during WW2. A veteran military aviator whose flying career dated back to the First World War, Sperrle later commanded the German Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War and subsequently became commander of Luftflotte 3. During the campaigns in Western Europe, Luftflotte 3 played a major role in operations against France and Britain. Sperrle was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on May 17, 1940 and was promoted from General der Flieger to Generalfeldmarschall on July 19, 1940.
Made of lightweight period printed paper, this portrait is in EXCELLENT used condition! There is some very slight age-related yellowing, however there are NO tears, bends, creases, repairs, stains, or other notable damage. The front features a photographic portrait of Hugo Sperrle with the printed caption “General der Flieger Sperrle” beneath the image, therefore places its original production during the period before his promotion to Field Marshal.. Across the lower portion of the portrait is his original wartime autograph, executed in a light reddish-pink colored pencil. The reverse is completely blank, indicating that this was produced as a portrait or autograph print rather than a conventional postcard. Everything is 100% ORIGINAL, wartime manufacture and wartime signed, making this a VERY NICE autographed portrait of one of the Luftwaffe’s senior wartime commanders! PERFECT for any collection or display!
