You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Luftwaffe TROPICAL National Emblem (Swastika), as ONLY used on the Messerschmitt Me109 G Fighter Aircraft! This was brought back by a US Veteran who cut the piece out from an wrecked aircraft in Tripoli in 1943.
Made of lightweight aluminum, and complete framed, this section is a SUPERB piece of history! Dated 1943, this was cut from an Me109 G, after it was shot down with AA fire shortly after strafing a US Held Airfield in Tripoli. After the belly landing, the German Pilot was taken as a POW. It was then when the veteran cut the piece rom the tail. He carried with him throughout the war. There are some slight wear, scratches, and marks (as well as a bullet hole!), but otherwise PERFECT! Originating from the starboard side of the Me109 G tail, some of the original wood rib structure still remains on the reverse. The camouflage paint consists of the undercoat RLM02, followed by RLM79 “Desert Tan”, and RLM80 “Olive Green”. Though hard to read, there is an inscription on the back, along with a faint “Tripoli 1943. Me109”. Completely framed, it is most likely from an Me109 G2. It measures approx. 13″ x 13″ (without frame), and would make for a SUPERB display! A VERY RARE addition to any collection or display!r.
