Description
German fighter and bomber aircraft incorporated independently operated hydraulic brakes on its two main wheels, controlled directly through the pilot’s rudder pedals. Each pedal incorporated a small hydraulic brake pump, or “Bremspumpe”, which converted pressure applied through the pedal into hydraulic pressure for the corresponding wheel brake. This arrangement allowed the pilot to apply differential braking while taxiing and maneuvering the aircraft on the ground.
Made of anodized aluminum and steel with its original leather dust cover, this hydraulic brake cylinder is in EXCELLENT, near NEW OLD STOCK condition! Features some dirt, marks, and wear, due to the age, however there are NO cracks, breaks, repairs, or damage! It was originally recovered still attached to an original Fw190 rudder pedal assembly (since has been sold), and retains its original manufacturer data plate, indicating, 8-3719 G-1. The anodized aluminum body remains extremely clean, with the steel fittings and operating components also exceptionally well preserved. The original leather protective dust cover remains present and intact. The assembly is complete and the mechanism appears to function correctly as it sits, although it has NOT been pressure tested or represented as an airworthy component. Everything is 100% ORIGINAL, wartime manufacture, making this an EXCEPTIONAL surviving piece of original cockpit and braking-system equipment! I have shown its location in the last image. Could need a bit of clean-up, but otherwise a VERY NICE and original item for any collection, display, or restoration project!
