Description
The planning in the spring of 1943 included 14 Frontreparaturbetriebe and 9 Heimatreparaturbetriebe with a combined capacity of 24,000 engines per year and a total workforce of approximately 8,000 employees.
Organizationally they were in control by the Auβenstellen des Generalluftzeugmeisters, or the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM). The FRB staff and personnel were directly employed by the Luftwaffe, which was therefore also responsible for the housing, care, and remuneration of these people. The technical and business economic management as well as the general management of the FRB and the appointment of personnel were, on the other hand, the task of BMW in its role as parent company.
Frontreparaturbetrieb Utrecht GL was originally the factory buildings of the Dutch company, Jongerius NV, but was confiscated by the Germans in 1942. Located on the ground floor was, Klöckner Flugmotorenbau GmbH of Hamburg, which was highly specialized in overhauling BMW801 Engines.
The intention had been that the factory would overhaul and test run 200 to 250 aircraft engines of the BMW 801 type every month.
Made of heavy gauge aluminum, this Manufacture Plate is in EXCELLENT used condition! Recovered from the Klöckner Repair Facility by a US Serviceman, there are some slight marks and wear, however, all information is still intact, clearly indicating:
Not sure where this would have been mounted – possibly a door or similar. Measuring approx. 1″ x 3″ in size, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
