Description
On January 14, 1944, Me109 G6 W.Nr. 26129 (piloted by Uffz. Eberhard Wollmann) encountered eight
Ilushin Il-2 along with an escort of six Lagg-3, flying at only 100 metres above enemy territory. Combat ensued with the enemy aircraft and Uffz Wollmann was seen engaging the Lagg-3’s. His wingman noticed a white glycol stream (from AA fire) could be seem coming from his engine, so he reported the problem via radio. Uffz. Wollmann confirmed, and flew on a northerly course out of the combat area, but due to being the air battle and poor visibility his flight could not be followed. It is presumed that due to the engine damage, he made a forced landing. The aircraft was built by Erla Maschinenwerk G.m.b.H. (Werk 1, Leipzig) in a batch of 135 a/c produced between August and September 1943. At the time of delivery, it carried the factory markings RV+IS, and later served as “Black 3”, with the IV Gruppe (11. Staffel) JG 54 based at Dorpat, Pskov region, in northern Russia.
The wreckage was recovered from a swamp in the 1990s, as is currently under restoration to flying status in France.
Made from German Beech from the Black Forest, these Instrument Panel sections are in EXCELLENT relic condition! Specific to the Me109 G-6 aircraft, the layout is quite unique, as opposed to standard (location of switches, size of magneto switch, etc.). Traces of the original RLM66 paint also remains! Though I have not cleaned anything, they remain in overall FANTASTIC condition! There is some wear due to the age, but otherwise VERY solid! I have shown images of the EXACT aircraft these were recovered from in the last images (as well as “Black 2” from the same unit to show the original camouflage scheme). A VERY RARE addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
