Description

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a WW2 German Kriegsmarine Schwimmwest (Inflatable Life Jacket / Life Preserver), as used by various U-Boat and Ship Crews!
During WW2 the most common life jackets were cork, kapok or inflatable versions. The Kriegsmarine utilized a variety of the assorted styles, which were essential equipment on all ocean vessels. Part of the Ship’s or U-Boat’s  stores equipment, they were distributed to crew members as required. Most models were manufactured in bright yellow material for ease of visibility, along with a pressurized air canister for inflation, along with manual inflation tube.
Made of a rubberized tan canvas construction, this inflatable life vest is in VERY NICE used condition.  Manufactured in 1942, it features both a pressurized canister as well as a manual inflation tube. There are various straps to secure to the user, and is 100% complete with no major damage! There is some fraying and wear to the cotton strap (see photo), as well as some glue separation, but that could be easily rectified by the winning bidder. Obviously not to be used in a survival situation, due to the age. Note that the camera flash makes the color look lighter in the close-up photos than it is in person. The true color is represented in the first five photos. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
