Description
The SAMOS heterodyne receiver was used to detect enemy radar beams and find their location. It was used primarily for maritime service on U-boats and large battleships such as the Bismarck and the Prince Eugen. The most frequent use was on U-boats, since the detection of enemy radar predicted an eminent attack, allowing the U-boat to dive and take evasive action.
Made of aluminum and steel, this FuMB4 Radar Detection Receiver is in SUPERB used condition! Though there are some marks, scratches, dents and wear to the outer casing, it still retains 95% of its original wartime paint! Appears to be 100% COMPLETE internally, and mechanically functional! I have not tested it for electrical functionality, but it should be a good candidate for anyone wishing to get it to work. All switches and dials work as they should. Data label is 100% complete, as well as an internal tag indicating “ncv“, for “the manufacture “Rohde & Schwarz”. The original wooden feet were replaced by rubber ones, but those could be converted back quite easily. I have shown its location in the sound room of U-995 in the last image. A VERY RARE radio it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
