Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Kriegsmarine Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-U-Boat-Jagd, und Sicherungsverbände (Minesweeper War Badge)!
The Minesweeper’s war badge was introduced on August 31, 1940, and issued to personnel serving on minesweepers, sub-chasers, and escort vessels. The main prerequisite was participation in three operational sorties.
Made of Tombac by “RK” (Rudolf Karneth, Gablonz), this badge is in VERY NICE condition. Being a Type 3, it features 8 waves with a vertical oval oak leaf wreath, and national eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle clutches a swastika. In the center is an image of an exploding water funnel. Original pin and catch are complete, however the pin is an original wartime replacement (probably broke in the field). Maker marked on the reverse, and has the original owners initials, “GB” inscribed. Retains 95% of the original finish! Would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
