WW2 German Kriegsmarine EM/NCO Tropenhelm – TROPICAL PITH HELMET – EARLY VARIANT – VERY NICE!

You are bidding on a RARE example of a 100% ORIGINAL German Kriegsmarine (Navy) EM/NCO Tropical Pith Helmet! This was brought back by a US Serviceman.

During the North African campaign, both the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe quickly developed specialized equipment for the Afrika Korps in the beginning of 1941.  Though used extensively, they were not a popular design, and manufacture was halted in 1942/43.  Produced in both a green and tan felt variation.

Made of canvas and cork, this 1st pattern Wehrmacht Pith Helmet is in VERY NICE used condition! The top features an alloy knob with ventilation holes, and the brim edge has a dark green leather edge.  Both the metal Tricolor Shield and National Eagle insignias are ORIGINAL to this helmet, and have never been messed with. Sadly the gold-colored Kriegsmarine Shield has come away (prongs have broken off), so it would need to be attached by the winning bidder. Features a leather sweatband, with a size 57 marked on the edge. Some wear, marks, stains, and tears due to the age.  Still retains its original shape and structure, and has not been crushed (though there is one slight crack on the top – see photo). Was painted white during the war, which is quite interesting. Note that due to the camera flash, the camera looks brighter than in person (it is more of an “off-white/yellow”). Missing the chinstrap, but otherwise complete.  A FANTASTIC vet bring-back, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
