You are bidding on a VERY NICE and 100% ORIGINAL example of a WW2 German Heer Schneetarnjacke (Winter Camouflage Pullover/Smock)!
On the Russian front in the winter of 1941 found the Germans completely unprepared in regards to snow camouflage garments. This resulted in hastily improvised snow camouflaged items being utilized (everything from civilian winter clothing to white bed sheets). Soon after, the OKW began testing to develop suitable garments. In April 1942 reversible jackets, boots, hoods, pants, and mittens in blue/grey/white colorations were approved. Though effective, they were difficult to clean, so a change was made to manufacture lightweight snow camouflage white shirts and pants that were to be worn over the standard issue uniforms.
Made of a lightweight white cotton/rayon, this “pull over” snow smock is in GOOD used condition! Features a hood, as well as two opened slashes at each side by the forward waistline, so the wearer could access to the underlying uniform pockets. Cuffs have elastics. Some slight wear and stains…as well as a few small holes, but nothing that detracts. No manufacture markings that I can see Smaller in size, I have shown a similar one in the last photo. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
