WW2 German Feuerschutzpolizei M34 Stahlhelm – M34 DOUBLE-DECAL FIRE POLICE SQUARE DIP HELMET WITH LINER – VERY NICE!

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT used example of a WW2 German Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Police) M34 Single Decal Helmet! 

 The first “modern” steel helmets were introduced by the French army in early 1915. The German army began tests for their own steel helmet at the Kummersdorf Proving Grounds in November, and in the field in December 1915, experimenting with both captured French and British helmets. An acceptable pattern was developed and approved and production began at Eisen-und Hüttenwerke, AG Thale/Harz, in the spring of 1916.

In 1935, the Third Reich developed the smaller, lighter M35 style helmet, and then in an effort to reduce construction time and labor costs, minor modifications were introduced in March 1940 resulting in the M40 helmet. Further construction modifications were undertaken in August 1942 resulting in the M42 helmet.

Beside the basic army style helmets the Germans also produced a wide variety of civic style helmets. Regulations included an attempt to standardize the helmets of the police with the new wreathed police eagle emblem to be applied to the left side of the helmet and the NSDAP party shield applied to the right side.

Made of stamped aluminum, this early M34 Square Dip Steel Helmet is in VERY NICE used condition! It retains 95% of its original black paint and finish, with some slight marks and wear, due to the age. Dating around 1936, it does not feature any markings internally (normal for this type of helmet). The Police decal is approx. 90% intact; and the party emblem around 98% intact. The helmet has two separate, groups “salt & pepper” style ventilation holes and all four of the flat headed liner retaining rivets are intact. The Liner is complete, and appears to be new old stock, with some slight damage from storage. It is a bit dry, so it may need some attention. The liner has ventilation perforations to the front forehead section. Marked as a size 56. All the natural cork spacers and padding are also still intact, along with the original, leather tabs for attaching a protective neck guard. Chin strap also appears to be original to this set, and unused in condition. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
