Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW2 British Royal Air Force and Commonwealth R1155 B (10D 130/45) Radio Communication Receiver! This was installed in the Avro Lancaster, Handley Page Halifax, Vickers Wellington, Short Sunderland and other bombers throughout the war!
The R1155 was a British communications receiver, commonly used in aircraft along with its associated T1154 transmitter. It was used extensively by the Royal Air Force during World War II, mainly in larger aircraft such as the Avro Lancaster, Handley Page Halifax, Vickers Wellington and Short Sunderland. Some were also used in vehicles and air-sea rescue launches. The R1155 and T1154 sets were manufactured by several British radio manufacturers, including EKCO, Marconi, Plessey, and EMI. Ekco, who manufactured the R1155 and T1154 at its Aylesbury shadow factory, carried out extensive development work on both units before putting them into production, significantly improving on the original Marconi design.
Made of aluminum, brass, and steel, this is an EXCELLENT used example. Found in Belgium, this was most likely recovered from a downed aircraft during the war. There are some marks and wear throughout due to the age, but nothing that detracts. Apart from a couple of the vacuum tubes, it appears to be 100% complete internally. Mechanically functional, however, I have not tested it electrically. As such, I am selling this as untested and non-functional. The Air Ministry Data Plate is still intact (these are usually missing), and the serial number matches that on the chassis! Various ink stamps throughout. I have shown its location in the last images. Would make a SUPERB addition to any RAF Radio collection or display!
