Description
The Type P11 Navigational Compass, Ref 6B/1672, was used across numerous aircraft of the British Royal Air Force during WWII, including Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito, and Beaufighter. The compass body rests in a vibration mount, and the compass ring can be rotated to indicate course. The compass is approx 5″ in diameter and 3″ inches deep, and was normally mounted below the instrument panel.
Made of wood, aluminum, and brass, this instrument is in EXCELLENT unused condition! It still retains much 98% of its original paint and finish, and the data information is 100% complete. Featuring the RAF Broad Arrow Marking, there are some light scratches and marks due to the age, but nothing that detracts. 100% FUNCTIONAL, it still points magnetic north, however with most RAF compasses of this type, the fluid has evaporated over time. This could very easy be re-filled by the winning bidder, as I have done them myself in the past. Comes complete in the original matching wood transport box. I have indicated it’s location in the last photos. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
