Description
Made by Carl Eickhorn (Early Logo, post 1906) this Infantry Sword is in VERY NICE used condition! Approx. 88cm long, it features a sharpened nickel/silver plated blade, however someone has sharpened from the tip back to about 40 cm (see photos). Some slight marks and wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts. The reverse of the blade clearly features the earlier Carl Eickhorn. Sabre has a D-pattern knuckle bow and crossguard with a slotted, turned down quilion. Grip is made of black celluloid over wood, and shows no wear or cracks. Sadly, the twisted wire wrap is loose, but it should be an easy fix
Both sides of the blade feature a 4½” long frosted gray panel, etched with a three-ribbon banner inscribed in raised gothic letters, “In Ttreue Fest (Steadfast with Loyalty) within floral motif. It is complete with the white felt buffer pad.
Comes complete with its original black metal scabbard. Scabbard retains approx. 80% original black paint, with a suspension ring.
The portepee/knot is original to this sword, as far as I can tell, but it is worn, as shown in the photos.
This type of sword is illustrated on Page 119 of the “1908 Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn, Solingen” as Pattern No. 185 (“Bayerisher Infanterie-Offizier-Säbel”); and is also illustrated on page 423 of “Swords of Germany 1900/1945 by John R. Angolia”.
A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
