Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW1 Imperial Prussian M1915 Pickelhaube Officer Neck Guard Spine!
Development of the pickelhaube can be traced back to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who initiated the original design and introduced it for wear by most of the Prussian line Infantry regiments on October 23, 1842. It became a visual symbol of Prussia’s military might and underwent numerous modifications until 1915. Due to the increased number of head wounds suffered by the German troops (grenades and shell fragments), the pickelhaube became obsolete, and was replaced with a steel helmet shell in 1916. After the introduction of the M1916 helmet the pickelhaube was relegated for wear only on ceremonial occasions.
Made of brass, this M1915/17 Pickelhaube Helmet Neck Guard Spine is in EXCELLENT used condition! VERY SOLID, with only some slight scratches, wear, and marks due to the age. Much of the original finish still remains. Still retains the original securing tab and nut. A PERFECT item for any collection, display,or restoration project!
