Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW1 Imperial Prussian Army PRIVATE PURCHASE M1915 Officer Infantry Pickelhaube Front Plate Emblem!
Development of the pickelhaube can be traced back to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who initiated the original design and introduced it for wear by most of the Prussian line Infantry regiments on October 23, 1842. It became a visual symbol of Prussia’s military might and underwent numerous modifications until 1915. Due to the increased number of head wounds suffered by the German troops (grenades and shell fragments), the pickelhaube became obsolete, and was replaced with a steel helmet shell in 1916. After the introduction of the M1916 helmet the pickelhaube was relegated for wear only on ceremonial occasions.
Made of brass, this M1915/17 Army Infantry Pickelhaube Emblem/Plate is in EXCELLENT used condition! Retains 98% original finish, with only some slight scratches, wear, and marks due to the age. Features a Prussian Eagle, with a Koenig Bandeau, and a Royal “FR” Cypher for Friedrich Rex (King Friedrich). Across the crest are the German words “Mit Gott Fur Koenig Und Vaterland” (With God for King and Fatherland). Detail is EXCEPTIONAL with a Hollowed-Out Crown, which is indicative of a Private Purchase item. Also comes with the original mounting nuts. A PERFECT item for any collection or display!
