Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW1 Imperial Prussian Army M1915 EM/NCO “Grand Duchy of Baden” Artillery Pickelhaube Emblem!
Development of the pickelhaube can be traced back to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who initiated the original design and introduced it for wear by most of the Prussian line Infantry regiments on October 23, 1842. It became a visual symbol of Prussia’s military might and underwent numerous modifications until 1915. Due to the increased number of head wounds suffered by the German troops (grenades and shell fragments), the pickelhaube became obsolete, and was replaced with a steel helmet shell in 1916. After the introduction of the M1916 helmet the pickelhaube was relegated for wear only on ceremonial occasions.
Made of a stamped alloy, this M1915/17 Artillery Pickelhaube Emblem/Plate is in EXCELLENT used condition! VERY SOLID, with only some slight scratches, wear, and marks due to the age. This emblems feratures a Crowned Heraldic Griffin clutching a sword and resting on the Baden state shield. Below this is the Grand Duchy’s motto: “MIT GOTT F. FUERST U. VATERLAND” (With God for Prince, or Grand Duke, and Fatherland). A PERFECT item for any collection or display!
