You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a WW1 / WW2 German Navy Kriegsmarine 2.5x Targeting Scope / Sight! Used specifically on the 10.5 cm S.K. L/40, this was used throughout WW1 and WW2 on various Cruisers and Gunboats!
The 10.5 cm SK
L/40 (SK – Schnelladekanone (quick-loading cannon) L – Länge (with a 40-caliber
long barrel) was a German naval gun used in World War I and World War II. It weighed 1,555 kilograms (3,428 lb), had an overall length of 4.475 m
(14 ft 8.2 in). It used a horizontal sliding-block breech design. Used on various ships, such as:
SMS Cap Trafalgar
Made of solid brass, aluminum, and steel by Zeiss, this scope is in EXCELLENT used condition! Though it is over 100 years old, it still retains some of it’s original paint, and markings are VERY clear! Though there is some slight spotting on the objective lens (should be an easy fix), the optics are VERY CLEAR, and the focus adjustment functions 100% correctly! There is a large knob that rotates through various filters, but that is VERY stiff at this point of time (will need to be lubricated/cleaned by the wining bidder). As it was originally mounted on a ship, there is some slight rust and pitting from the salt air, but nothing that detracts. Some small screws also appear to be missing. The data information is still clearly impressed into the front plate, and indicates 10.5cm S.K. L/40. Measuring approx 43″ long, it weighs approx. 25 lbs. I have shown the EXACT aiming scope in use in the last photo (see red arrow). Having never seen another one (only 7 guns remain in existence, and none have the targeting sight), it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
