Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE original WW1 German Heer Besitz-Zeugnis for the Iron Cross 2nd Class, displayed together with its original period medal grouping! This grouping includes a 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class; a Kingdom of Württemberg Medal bearing Wilhelm II König von Württemberg, and a Württemberg Long Service decoration!
Imperial German Iron Cross award documents were issued to soldiers who had been awarded the Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse for bravery, merit, or distinguished wartime service. During the First World War, many veterans and families preserved these documents together with the recipient’s medals in framed displays. These personalized groups are far more desirable than loose documents, as they represent a complete period presentation connected to one named soldier and his wartime service.
Made of an original framed WW1 German award document and medal display, this example remains housed behind glass in its original period frame and has never been opened. The frame, glass, document, backing, and medals all appear original to the period display. The document shows age toning and minor wear consistent with age, while the frame shows normal handling wear but no major damage. The document is titled “Besitz-Zeugnis” (Possession Certificate), and is named to “Pionier Theodor Löffler” of “württ. Scheinwerferzug 311“(Württemberg Searchlight Detachment 311).” The document states that by order of the commanding general of the “XIII. (Königl. Württ.) Armeekorps” (13th Royal Württemberg Army Corps),” and he was awarded the “Eiserne Kreuz II. Klasse” (Iron Cross 2nd Class). The award authorization date appears as 5.4.17, and the certificate is dated 29 Mai 1917. The lower portion bears a red stamp reading “Kommandeur der Pioniere der 26. Inf. Division” (Commander of the Pioneers of the 26th Infantry Division).” Mounted above the document are three original period medals, including the original 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class; a Kingdom of Württemberg Medal bearing Wilhelm II König von Württemberg, and a Württemberg Long Service decoration. A VERY NICE and desirable named WW1 German Heer Iron Cross award document and medal group connected to a Württemberg pioneer/searchlight unit. PERFECT for any collection or display!
