Description

You are bidding on a NICE example of WW2 US Army M70F Scope / Gunsight, as ONLY used in the M4A3 75W Sherman Tank!  This was used in conjunction with the 75mm M3 Main Cannon!

The Shermans fire control system was improved by the incorporation of a direct telescope mount to the M38A1 gun mount. This prompted the creation of the full-length gun mantlet to protect the scope. When these were retrofitted into older tanks, sometimes they would weld on armor over the scope, leaving a half armored mantlet.
The M70 F telescope had 3x magnifications with 12 degree 19-minute FOV.  An updated version of the earlier M70, it had more superior optics, and a reticle that was updated for the newer gun.

Made of rubber and steel, this aiming scope was manufactured in 1943.  It retains 90% of its original paint and finish with only some slight corrosion form storage.  Removed from a damaged Sherman in Germany, it has a total length of approx. 22″.  The optics are VERY CLEAR with no spotting.  The data information is stamped into the side, but a bit difficult to read.  Some screws are missing, as well as some marks, wear, and chips due to the age, but nothing that detracts.  Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection or display!

——————- ABOUT ME —————–

Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft (Fw190, Me262, etc.), as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period. As a private collector myself, I am constantly on the lookout for historical memorabilia, authentic photographs, artwork or anything unique relating to military aircraft.
