You are bidding on a SUPERB used example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Type 2 Model 2 “Gou” Magnetic Compass, as used in various early and mid-war Japanese Fighters and Bombers such as the Nakajima Ki-43 “Oscar”, Kawasaki Ki-100 “Tony”, Mitsubishi Ki-21 “Sally”, Kawasaki Ki-48 “Lily”, Mitsubishi Ki-67 “Peggy”, and others!

This instrument indicated the current direction of the aircraft and pointed to magnetic north.  It was normally located at the navigator position, however it was often mounted into fighters directly in front of the control stick for a direct vertical reading.  Was used in most bombers and fighters.

Made of brass and aluminum by the Tokyo Aviation Indicator Company, this instrument is in EXCELLENT used condition!  It was taken from a downed Japanese aircraft during the war, and it still retains 95% of it’s original finish!  95% of the original fluid remains, and shows only one air bubble.  No breaks or damage, 100% functional, and it still points magnetic North!.  There is some paint fading and chipping due to the age, but nothing that take away from the overall appearance.  Data Plate has some bends, but it is easy to read.  I have indicated it’s location in a Ki-100 fighter cockpit in the last photos.

Like most Japanese instruments, this item is VERY RARE and would be a FANTASTIC addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection!

——————- ABOUT ME —————–

Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft (Fw190, Me262, etc.), as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period. As a private collector myself, I am constantly on the lookout for historical memorabilia, authentic photographs, artwork or anything unique relating to military aircraft.
