Description
You are bidding on a VERY RARE example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Wischstock (Cleaning Rod), as used ONLY used in conjunction with various flare guns! These were used for signalling and survival purposes.
The cleaning rod or extraction rod (Wischstock) is the required accessory for the German flare gun. Due to the way the cartridges are made, o occasion, the shell cases expanded in the barrel or even broke. As such, thecleaning rod had two roles: 1) Cleaning the barrel itself (powder residue and oil), and extracting, when needed for removing a jammed shell. The way the cleaning rods were made were identical between each manufacture, consisting of a welded handle on a steel rod; with analuminum cylinder at the end. The top of the handle featured a leather strap and clasp. Markings were either on the handle or aluminum cylinder.
Made of aluminum and steel, this is a VERY RARE item, and is dated 1938. There are some slight marks and scratches due to the age, but otherwise VERY SOLID. The lether strap and clasp feature no damage, and the maker marking is stamped into the handle, indicating “GL38”. Also features a prominent Waffenampt in the center. 100% functional, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
