WW2 German WH HEER LW NSDAP – M31 LEATHER CANTEEN STRAPS – GNL 1 40 – COMPLETE!

The M31 canteen was based on the M1893 and M1907 canteen which were used throughout WW1.  These were originally manufactured in aluminum, but as aluminum was required for use in other equipment (aircraft, for example), they were then re-designed to be manufactured in steel. For tropical climates, the canteen was made of pressed wood with canvas straps.

Made of leather, and steel, this canteen straps set is in EXCELLENT condition for it’s age. Some marks and wear throughout, due to the age, as well as some slight corrosion to the steel fittings, but nothing that detracts. Cap is marked, “GNL 1 40“. These is the early type with the addition of the smaller strap that goes around the neck. Named, but no markings that I can see. This style was also used with paramilitary NSDAP units. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
