WW2 German WH Hitler Youth NSDAP – M31 EARLY CANTEEN & STRAPS – GNL 1 40 – COMPLETE!

The M31 canteen was based on the M1893 and M1907 canteen which were used throughout WW1.  These were originally manufactured in aluminum, but as aluminum was required for use in other equipment (aircraft, for example), they were then re-designed to be manufactured in steel. For tropical climates, the canteen was made of pressed wood with canvas straps.

Made of aluminum, leather, and steel, this canteen & strap set is in EXCELLENT condition for it’s age. Some marks and wear throughout, due to the age, as well as some slight corrosion to the steel fittings, but nothing that detracts. The is one dent on the bottom on the canteen. Cap is marked, “GNL 1 40“. These is the early type with the addition of the smaller strap that goes around the neck. Named, but no markings that I can see. Probably a Hitler Youth canteen, or used with some other paramilitary unit, that had a slightly different design than the Army version. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
