Description
You are bidding on an AMAZING and VERY RARE set of WW2 German Kriegsmarine 7×50 Commander Binoculars! The German Army and Navy used a wide variety of optical equipment, including a 6×30 (6 power magnification with 30mm objective lens), 7×50, 8×30, 10×50 and others, being the standard issued optics used by all branches of service. Though this type was the standard, specialized personnel required stinger optics, and were issues to personnel on a limited basis. This specific binocular was used by U-Boat crews, ships, and coastal artillery.
Made by Carl Zeiss of a large tooled alloy and aluminum construction, these 7 x 50H power binoculars are in SUPERB used condition! The lens bodies retain all of their original, rough textured covering, with NO cracks or damage! The aluminum end piece fittings are 100% intact, but appear to have been re-painted at one time. The focus adjustment still functions perfectly on both eye pieces and the optics are still AMAZINGLY clear with NO spotting! Sadly, the optical alignment is a off, slightly, but that can be rectified by the winning bidder. The right side body is well marked with the impressed KM Adler markings; an “N” – indicating North Sea use; and the serial number “1790”. The info is hard to read, as someone has painted over most of the original markings. In addition, the Adler appears to have been gone over by someone post-war to have it stand out (most likely it was sanded to remove the markings, and then someone tried to re-engrave it) . Left side is marked with a “T” (indicating the optics are coated), along with 7×50 H (H, meaning Helligkeit – high light transmission); and “Carl Zeiss Jena”. As mentioned most stamps are legible, but have been painted over. Some slight paint chips on the edges. The leather rain shield is ORIGINAL to this set, as is the neck strap. A VERY RARE example, with NO cracks, breaks, or damage! A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
