Description
With the development of poisonous gases used as offensive weapons throughout WW1, appropriate defensive gasmasks had to be developed. The early M1915 and 1917 gasmasks evolved into the M24, and eventually into the M30 and M38 versions. All German Army and Airforce personnel were issued a gas mask, carry canister and accessories, and were required to have them ready at all times.
Made of aluminum and steel, this VM40 canister is EXCELLENT used condition, and features its 95% of its original Dark Blue paint! Some wear and dents due to the age, and features a stenciled number on the outside! Locking latch is100% FUNCTIONAL! The straps are tied to act similarly to those on a back pack. As this came with a child-size maks (see my other listing), this could have been done so a small child could carry it easily. Note that the canisters are VERY hard to find, as the masks usually only came issued in a cardboard box. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
