Description
You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht KRIEGSMARINE M38 Gas Mask & Cannister! These masks were issued to all personnel throughout the war.
With the development of poisonous gases used as offensive weapons throughout WW1, appropriate defensive gasmasks had to be developed. The early M1915 and 1917 gasmasks evolved into the M24, and eventually into the M30 and M38 versions. All German Army and Airforce personnel were issued a gas mask, carry canister and accessories, and were required to have them ready at all times.
Made of black rubber with blue anodized fittings, this M38 pattern gas mask is in SUPERB condition, and all the fabric covered straps and buckles are intact! The metal alloy eye socket frames and snout retain 98% original late-war BLUE paint, and the celluloid eye-socket lenses are present. The rubber is still flexible, only showing light age, and all components are intact! Size is marked as a “2”. Straps are complete (including the rear head pad, that you normally do not find on the M38), and appear to be NOS!
The mask comes complete with a stamped, multi-piece late-war filter marked, “Fe 42”. It retains 95% of its original paint, with only some slight wear and marks.
The canister is EXCELLENT, retaining with 98% of its original Kriegsmarine Grey paint, and is approx. 11” tall with a spring-loaded type hinge closure. Some wear, corrosion and marks due to the age. Lid has a square box to carry the replacement lenses, and lid is named (though label is partially missing). Comes complete with the original straps!
Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
