Description
You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a SINGLE WW2 German Luftwaffe Fliegerhandschuhe Leder (Leather Flying Gloves), as used by various fighter pilots and bomber crew members! This was specifically issued to Fliegerhorst Kommandantur Reicherberg!
Made of leather, these gloves were used throughout the Luftwaffe by many pilots and bomber crews. They provided both protection and warmth, during both summer and winter months.
Reichersberg airfield was located on the border between Germany and Austria – 27.5 km SSW of Passau and 1.6 km E of the village of Reichersberg. Established after the Anschluss in March 1938, it was primarily used as a training and and auxiliary landing strip for ground for training units and transit fighter units. A grass surface, it was generally quite poor in condition an measured approx. 1000 x 915 meters, with no paved runway.
Of note: on April 16, 1945, there was a low level attack by VIII Fighter Command P-51s, which claimed 115
destroyed or damaged, approx. 60% single and twin-engine fighters and
the remainder bombers and unidentified aircraft.
School Units: Arbeitsplatz for FFS A/B 115 then FFS 115 (Wels) (1939-45).
Reserve Training & Replacement Units: elements of Erg.JG 1 (1945).
Made of soft leather, this single trigger mitten is in VERY NICE used condition! Though it has been used during the war, 95% of the original coloring remains, with some slight marks and wear from use. No corrosion on any of the contacts/snaps. Some small holes here and there, but nothing that detracts. Marked as a size 8, with a 1938 date; a stamp indicating, Fl.H. Kdtr. Rchbg. and Fl.H. Kp. Rchbg; and an LBA 38 property stamp. A 100% genuine Luftwaffe issue item, it would make a VERY NICE addition to any collection or display!
