You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of WW2 German Wehrmacht Selbstfahrlafetten-Zielfernrohr Sfl.Z.F. 1 5×8 Gun Scope, as used on various Assault Guns and Tank Destroyers!  This SPECIFIC type was recovered from a NORMANDY wreck of a StuG III Ausf. A or E!

Having a magnification of 5×8°, this was the gunners main aiming scope.  It was used in conjunction with the 7.5cm StuK37 and 7.5cm KwK37 cannons!

The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) assault gun was Germany’s most-produced fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle during World War II, and second-most produced German armored combat vehicle of any type after the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track. It was built on a slightly modified Panzer III chassis, replacing the turret with an armored, fixed superstructure mounting a more powerful gun. Initially intended as a mobile assault gun for direct-fire support for infantry, the StuG III was continually modified, and much like the later Jagdpanzer vehicles, was employed as a tank destroyer.

Made of aluminum and steel, this anti-tank aiming scope was manufactured between 1940 and 1944.  It retains 85% of its original Dunkelgelb paint and finish, with a FIELD APPLIED camouflaged sighting head!  As it was pulled from a wreck in Normandy, there are some slight marks and damage as you can see in the photos.  Not to be confused with the common Sfl. Z.F 1a, this is the FIRST variant, designed to attach to the standard Rundblickfernrohr mount!  No major corrosion or damage!  The manufacture code and data information is stamped into the side, indicating:

Sfl.Z.F. 1

All optics are VERY CLEAR, but do feature a lot of dust particles.  The good thing is that this is probably the EASIEST scope to clean, so anyone can do it without having to get it professionally serviced (I can instruct the winning bidder on how to do it)I have shown it’s location in the last photos, as well as wartime image of the same reticle (Russian Front).  A VERY NICE scope that would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!

Please email me if you need additional photos or information.
