Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a WW2 German Em 1m R Range Finder & Transport Box! This was used by Artillery, Flak, and MG Crews.
The German Army used a wide variety of optical equipment. The 1,0 Rf (Raumbild Fernrohr or Richtungsweiser-Fernrohr) was a “coincidence” type stereoscopic range finder. Internally, there are a series of prisms, beam splitters and mirrors, which will divide the viewed image into two halves. When focused into one image, the range finder provides a distance or altitude to the target. The item consists of a 53mm diameter tube with glass lenses in rotating housings fitted at each end. These housings can be positioned for viewing or can be slid under raised protective covers when not in use. The center section contains a pair of adjustable viewing lenses, with a shaped black ribber face rest which hinges open to permit access to the lenses.
Fitted to each end of the range finder are protective brown leather cups, each containing a capped tuning wheel marked ‘H’ and ‘E’ respectively. The protective end caps are secured with small chains to prevent loss. There is a ‘V’ notch and bladed steel sight fitted in the center above the left eyepiece and a dovetailed steel guide rail, designed to fit a battery operated lighting system for use in low light conditions.
Two ribbed metal collars are clamped to the tube on either side of the rubber face rest for fitting a tripod yoke. There are also two steel strap swivels on sliding rings fitted towards each end. At the bottom center is a threaded aperture for attachment to a small tripod or a steel handle.
Made of a brass, aluminum, and steel by Leitz, this Em 1m R. Range Finder (Em 1m R.34, I believe), is in EXCELLENT used condition! Though some of the original German Grey paint can be seen, it was re-painted by Finland during the war (could be removed/re-painted, if one wished). No breaks or damage, and all knobs/adjustments function smoothly and correctly! Focus adjustment turn as they should. Rubber face pad is still very soft and pliable! Has a couple Finnish “SA” inspection stamps, but numbers are matching, indicating”488″, and all text is in German. Though the carrying strap is original to this unit, I believe it is also Finnish. The original data labels remain, and indicate:
Em 1m R.
m.f.M.
Vergr. 8x
Lattenabstan
1650cm
Though taking a good photo of the view was very difficult, the optics are AMAZINGLY spotless and clear, with NO marks or dust particles (probably unused)! This set comes complete with:
Berichtigungslatte Correction Bar
Tripod Yoke
(made by SAG with a WaA)
Handle
Sun Shields
Cleaning Cloth
Cleaning Brush
Eyepiece Filters
Optical Light Plug
Battery Box
(Finnish)
Transport Box
(with a KM Data Plate on the front, and WaA internally)
The Transport Box also features the original German contents sheet. There are some empty spots that would have held some additional Bulbs; the German Issue Battery Box, and Dimmer Switch. Probably dating earlier in the war, it would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
