Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE set of WW2 German Luftwaffe Funkstörung (Radar Countermeasure) Strips! Recovered from a Ju188 wreck that was shot down over the UK, I will provide the full loss details to the winning bidder. These strips were recovered from the aircraft by the RAF at the time of the loss.
Both the Allied and Axis powers employed Chaff (bundles of aluminum foil strips) dropped from aircraft to produce false blips on the enemy’s radar screens. The British called their version “Window”, while the Germans called it ”Funkstörung” (Radio Countermeasure). When dropped from an aircraft, the twisting and turning effect it created when falling from the airplane could fool radars of many frequencies. This was only used for a very short time during the war.
Ju188 E-1, W. Nr. 260179 (3E+BL), was lost on October 15, 1943, due to air combat with a with Mosquito from 85 Sq. (S/L Maguire & Jones). I will provide additional details to the winning bidder. Made of aluminum, you are bidding on a FANTASTIC set of Luftwaffe Chaff strips. As they came from a wreck, there are some slight marks, wear, and bends, but nothing that detracts. Recovered from a Ju188 at the time of the loss by an RAF Serviceman, there are approx. 30 strips in total. Come in the original tin they were stored in, some of the loss info is typed on the label affixed to the top. One of the most unique and rarest German aircraft items to obtain, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
