Description
The AFN101A Radio Altimeter worked in conjunction with the FuGN101. The FuGN101 used a radio probe to indicate actual altitude compared to the ground. Developed by Siemens, it was intended for the twin-engine hunters and destroyers and weighed a very heavy 16 kg (35lbs.). Working on a frequency of 375 MHz, the precision of this device was within approximately 2 meters. The FuGN101 version was effective between 150 and 1000 meters of altitude and the FuGN101A version between 150 and 750 meters. This device was characterized outside by small vertical antennas under the wings, it was equipped primarily in nightfighter aircraft This was used in the Do-335, Fw190, He-219, Me-110, Ju-88, Ju-88, Ju-388, Do-24 and Do217. Made of aluminum and bakelite this piece is dates late around 1944, and would have been used right up until the end of the war. It is in EXCELLENT overall condition and all dials work smoothly and correctly. Some slight scratching and marks due to the age, but otherwise PERFECT! One of the BEST example I have seen, it will make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, or restoration project! |
