Description
Inflatable life rafts were an essential component of survival/emergency gear for many German Fighters and Bombers required to fly over large bodies of water. Made in 3 different sizes (6-10 person, 2-4 person and single person), depending on the type of aircraft. The raft was attached to the back of the pilot’s parachute, along with additional survival equipment. They were equipped with collapsible aluminum oars, a metal container of pressurized air (or carbonic acid) to inflate the boat a bailing bag, emergency rations, a recognition flag, emergency signaling equipment, and ropes.
Though the bag is a bit dirty and features some corrosion on the steel hardware, it retains 95% of it’s original color and stenciling! Sadly, the shoulder straps are missing. The data information on the bag indicates:
Packhülle Für Einmannschlauchboot
10-5502-A1
Fl. 415001
Brought back by a veteran, the set is 100% COMPLETE. The Rubber Lift Raft is in near MINT condition, and comes with the Pressurized Air Bottle (Fl.10-5953); Drag Anchor (Fl. 415006); and Bailing Bag/Cup (Fl.415007). The glue that affixes the two pouches that store the Anchor and Cup have come away, but that could be rectified by the winning bidder. It rubber is still VERY soft and flexible…and it still inflates! SELDOM seen this complete and in this condition, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
