You are bidding on an EXCELLENT and VERY RARE example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Ärmelstreiffen “KRETA” NCO Cuff Title!
The “Kreta”, (Crete), cuff title was introduced on October 16, 1942, and awarded to personnel who participated in the successful assault on the Greek, Mediterranean island of Crete from May 20 – June 1, 1941. The cuff title was considered a military combat decoration, and as such, was awarded with a document, and was entered into the recipient’s official military service documentation. Bestowal of the award was opened to personnel in all three branches of service who had actively been involved in the invasion of Crete. It was worn on the lower left sleeve of the field blouse, service tunic and greatcoat by all eligible personnel with no differentiation for rank. Due to the significant role that the German Fallschirmjäger, (Paratroopers), played in the successful invasion they were awarded a large percentage of the “Kreta” cuff titles.
Made of a white, cotton and rayon blend, this cuff title, is in EXCELLENT used condition! It features a machine embroidered, “KRETA”, flanked by acanthus leaves in a bright golden yellow. It is bordered at both the top and bottom edges in bright, golden yellow, rayon Russian braiding. The leaves are the typical type with seven petals to each side. Some marks, stains, and wear throughout. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
