You are bidding on an AMAZING example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe AK39 Armkompaß (Wrist Compass), Fl. 23235, as used by various German pilots and crew members! This is the rarer 1st model, and comes in the original box!
The AK39 Wrist Compass was designed for wear by pilots and crew for correctly calculating their position if forced to bail out or after a crash. Though it was designed to be worn on the wrist, it was commonly attached to various other pieces of equipment (zipper, straps, etc.).
Made of black bakelite, this compass is in STUNNING unused condition! EASILY the nicest one I have EVER SEEN, it retains 99% of the original paint and finish, with NO marks or scratches! 100% FUNCTIONAL, it features 360 degree markings on the face. The bottom is clearly marked, “AK39”, and the Fl. label indicates Fl. 23235. Serial number on the bottom MATCHES that on the box, proving that the box is the original to this compass! Missing the straps but replacements come up quite a bit on eBay. The original extension strap is included, however. Has an air bubble in the top, but should be easy to refill, as there is an access screw on the bottom. All markings are VERY bright! Would make for a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
