WW II British RAF Aircraft – FIN FLASH ON CAMO FABRIC – DH. 98 MOSQUITO – RARE!

You are bidding on a SUPER RARE 100% original WW2 British Royal Airforce Aircraft Fin Flash and Camouflaged Fabric Skin!  This was recovered from a downed De Havilland D.H. 98 Mosquito on the Western Front, however I do not have any further history.  

This type of lacquered fabric covered the entire airframe of the aircraft, and all control surfaces.  This was fairly universal on most aircraft control surfaces during WW2.

The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito is a British twin-engined, shoulder-winged, multirole combat aircraft, introduced during the Second World War. Unusual in that its frame was constructed mostly of wood, it was nicknamed the “Wooden Wonder” or “Mossie”.  Lord Beaverbrook, Minister of Aircraft Production, nicknamed it “Freeman’s Folly”, alluding to Air Chief Marshal Sir Wilfrid Freeman, who defended Geoffrey de Havilland and his design concept against orders to scrap the project.  In 1941, it was one of the fastest operational aircraft in the world.

Made of lightweight fabric, this section is ian EXCEEEDINGLY RARE example!  95% of the ORIGINAL camouflage paint paint remains, along with a VERY PROMINENT British Fin Flash!  Paint consists of Ocean Grey.  Original WW2 aircraft fabric is EXTREMELY rare as it usually burned up or rotted away over time.  Measuring approx. 15″ x 27″, there are some slight wear, tears, and marks, due to the age.  Dating around 1944, this was removed after it was shot down over Germany.  100% identifiable as coming from a DH.98 Mosquito due to the camouflage coloring and warning stencils.  Though the stencil is not complete, it would have indicated, “EXTERNAL CONTROL LOCKING”.  Note that I have other fabric from this exact aircraft in my other listings.  Exact location (port side of aircraft) is shown in the last image.  A SUPERB piece of history, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
