Description
You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a US Navy Carrier Aircraft Tail Arrestor Hook! This originates from the estate of Capt. Robert C. Klosterman, where he had used it on his desk as a paperweight.
Captain Robert C. Klosterman started out as a young naval gunship helicopter pilot. He flew in Vietnam, returning home after 440 combat missions. A Naval Academy graduate in 1969, he later flew A-7s and commanded several squadrons. In 1986 he flew and led the Navy combat mission over Libya to strike key military sites belonging to leader Muammar al-Qadafi and led sailors in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Robert Klosterman proved a combat veteran, successful leader of men, and a swaggering fighter pilot. Earlier, he was CO of a logistics ship, XO of the USS Enterprise and the first commanding officer of the nuclear carrier, USS John C. Stennis.
A subject of many books and TV movies, more information about this controversial Navy Pilot and Commander can be found online.
Made of cast and welded steel, this F/A-18 Tail Hook Desk Paperweight is in EXCELLENT used condition! Though the mounting ears were purposefully cut off so it would sit flat, ALL other details still remain, including all the original part numbers! Painted gold, it was probably some sort of presentation piece he received throughout his career. Various marks, scratches, and wear, bot nothing that detracts. I have shown its location in the last images. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
